Writers to Teachers: How-To Writing

Parents,

Last week we transitioned into a new type of writing, How To Writing!  The students have amazed me with their detailed skills, and as a class we have now graduated to becoming “teachers” in order to explain our detailed steps to another person using How To Writing.  In class, we will continue writing, sharing and celebrating with our writing as we continue each day to improve our skills.  I am very proud of all of the students.

Today we used our How To steps we created to pot plants here in our classroom.  The students had to follow their detailed steps.  If they missed a step or needed more details, that had to make those changes before they planted.  In order to plant the “correct” way (in order), we needed to understand the instructions very clearly.  Way to go first graders!!!
